Herieth Paul, a 20-year old Tanzanian fashion model, will join current Maybelline brand ambassadors Adriana Lima, Jourdan Dunn and Gigi Hadid as the newest—and youngest—face of the popular global cosmetics brand. Maybelline is part of L’Oreal’s portfolio.

Paul says she is proud to be a part of the changing face of cosmetics, and believes her appointment will open up doors for other models from ethnic minorities. “There is a lot of work that needs to be done because out of 100 percent of models, there are only two percent black, and three percent Asian, so we need to change the numbers,” she told reporters.

Maybelline is of course not the first to embrace ethnic diversity in choosing spokesmodels. Lancome, another L’Oreal brand, signed Lupita Nyong’o to front the brand last year. Halle Berry, for instance, has served at both Revlon and Coty. Joan Smalls and Liu Wen represented Lauder.
